Basics of Guitar Learning: Should I start with Acoustic Guitar or Electric Guitar

One of the basics in learning to play guitar is to obtain a good guitar. You will need one for your practice and for your playing. Many beginners do not know what type to choose from. Should they get an acoustic guitar or an electric one? If they want to get an acoustic guitar, they may want to know how many types there are to select. The first thing that you will have to consider is your objectives. If you really want to play with the band and aim for playing certain types of electric guitar, you can go for it. For example, you can select to buy a electric lead or electric bass guitar. However, it will be difficult for you to start with those kinds. Normally, the beginner should start with basics. Acoustic one is more suitable for learning basics of playing.

A good electric guitar is normally more expensive than an acoustic one. In addition, you will have to buy some accessories including amplifier, speaker or other modifiers. In the end, you may have to spend a lot more. So, electric guitar should not be a first guitar for anyone. It is, however, suitable for being the second guitar for the one who loves to play with the band or already has a group of people to play with.

When it comes to acoustic guitar, there are two major types of guitar to choose from. You can buy either folk guitar or classical guitar. There are some different in the designs and features of the two. For example, classical guitar has wider neck and has nylon strings. On the contrary, folk guitar has narrower neck and metal strings.

Whether you should buy a folk guitar or classical guitar depends on your needs. Classical guitar is suitable for playing notes and softer music. Folk guitar has sharper sound and is more suitable for chords playing. If you like folk or pop songs, you may want to choose a folk guitar.

No matter what type of guitar you decide to buy is, you have to start playing and practicing. Without that, your chance of success is slim. Therefore, you should decide and get one as soon as possible.
