There are many things that you may want to know if you want to start learning acoustic guitar. In this article, we gathered some of the most frequently asked questions on acoustic guitar. They can help you to make the decision if you should continue your desire to learn it or you should go for other direction.

What are the good points of acoustic guitar?
It is one of the simple available instruments that you can use in this modern day. You don’t have to use electricity to run it. Unlike many other music instruments, guitar gives you enough range of notes to play, up to several octaves. So, you can play wide range of songs without any difficulty. The price of acoustic guitar is not so expensive so everyone should be able to afford one.

Is it difficult to learn and how long should I practice until I can play the first song?
All the music learning takes time and effort. It is not easier or more difficult that any other instruments. The success of guitar learning depends on your time and your commitment to practice it. There is no rule how soon you can play. But if you put yourself one hour a day practice, you may be able to play your first song within a week or two.

Where should I learn how to play acoustic guitar?
The best thing is to find a decent guitar tutor for your self. However, not everyone can do it. You can study from the book which I do not really recommend. The success rate is rather low for that. You can also go to music school and learn there. Again that will be costly to some. Alternatively, you can buy the online acoustic guitar program. There are many available with reasonable prices. Select the one you like the most and start from there.

What are the different between acoustic guitar and electric guitar?
There are many different features and benefits between both items. To make it short, electric guitar requires the electricity and is made for playing to the public. It can be connected to the amplifier and you can adjust the volume and the quality of the sound. Acoustic guitar is similar to violin on the point that it does not require anything like that. You can just play it without anything else. You can use one acoustic guitar and perform on your own impressively. The sound quality depends on the materials used for making the acoustic guitar.

There are many questions about acoustic guitar. This article gives you some of those questions and come with the answers to them.

If you want to learn how to play acoustic guitar there are some things that you need to know right from the start. Believe me when I say that they will save you a great deal of frustration.

Here are some great tips that should help:

1# Because you will need to practice often (and sometimes you wont want to)-, playing along to a favorite song can be a great motivator. Even if you are a raw beginner you will be surprised at how many songs you can play along to.

“Google” your favorite song and see if there’s a result that offers chord charts for them. Study the charts to find a song you know that has a simple chord progression, these will be chords that you can already play or would like to learn. Download the chord charts and start practicing. You’ll be amazed at how good you will feel when you are playing along to your well loved songs.

2# Make sure that your guitar is tuned properly. You may not believe this but I’ve met people who wanted to know how to play acoustic guitar that didn’t know that each string on a guitar had to be tuned to a specific pith!. It’s not a case of getting the tuning nearly right either, you need to get it “spot on” why? because you will judge your playing by the way you sound and if just one string is slightly of pitch, your “sound” wont be as good as you would like or indeed would have been had your guitar been in tune.

To make sure your guitar is in tune you can use a set of inexpensive pitch pipes. Learn to tune from string to string. Use an electronic guitar tuner or tune from a piano or another guitar. To save room in this article I wont go into detail but you can find some excellent information here:

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Guitar/Setting_up_the_Guitar

3# Decide on what type of pick (plectrum)you want to use. This is one of the most overlooked pieces of equipment. Picks come in various gauges. A very thin pick will give a much softer sound than a thick one so try experimenting and choose the pick that achieves the sound you want. Some guitarist wear a pick on there thumb and some guitarists just use their fingers. It’s all a matter of choice and something you do need to be aware of.

4# Now you’ll have to excuse me here as I’m going to use a word that some people find quite upsetting. Are you ready? The word is “practice”. I’m sorry but it just had to be said. Of course, we all promise we will practice but there’s always a good film on or the big game just about to start and a hundred other excuses. I’m no different, so here my suggestion.

Don’t promise yourself that you will practice for an hour every day. Make that a promise of twenty minutes everyday. Little and often is best I find. Have your guitar and chord books or tabs to hand if you’re watching TV, that way you can have five minutes practice during the commercial break (and sometimes longer). I find that this works really well as it’s sort of unplanned (and far more enjoyable than most of the commercials).

I hope that these tips will help you on your way to becoming a great guitarist.

Practice, Practice, Practice. That’s how to play acoustic guitar.

If you want to be able to play acoustic guitar, you will have to practice. There are many things that you need depending on what level you are. Let’s presume that you are a beginner in acoustic guitar playing. You will need the following for your practice.

1 A good acoustic guitar
You should not borrow a guitar from anyone since you are going to stay with it for a long time. You are not going to give up, aren’t you? If you decide so, get one. It doesn’t have to be expensive. A guitar is not expensive though. If you are short in budget, buy a second hand one. You can go to eBay and look for one. Buying a reliable brand will save you a lot of headache. A no name guitar can make your practice a torture.
2 A good teacher or guide book or guitar course
Do not expect that you can learn playing guitar without a guide. It is not that easy. You will need to right guide to save your time and money. Paying for something that will stick with you for the rest of your life will be very worthy. If you can not afford a tutor, get a book or an online course. There are many available at affordable cost.

3 A good and quiet place
To not bother others, you will need a place to practice. The beginning phase will be boring for you and for the ones who have to listen to you. However, a lot of people don’t mind if you can not find a place. I started out practicing in a room with other family members. They didn’t mind and they were surprised to hear later on that I could play. It was a rewarding experience to face.

4 A metronome
If you are serious about playing the rhythm right from the beginning, you should get one. It is an inexpensive device which I found quite useful. However, you don’t have to if you do not have budget on this. It is not a must but it is nice to have.

5 Time and schedule
You will need to practice guitar everyday if you want to succeed in it. I think the best interval is around one to two hours. I did it in the evening when I got home from college. Again, the schedule depends on your availability. The estimated time frame that you can start playing a song may be within one to two months.

Learning acoustic guitar is not difficult if you practice it well enough. This article is about what you need to practice acoustic guitar.

Of course, people know that acoustic guitar and electric guitar look different. But the beginner may not know which one is better. Some may decide to buy a new guitar but can not make decision which one he should buy. In this article, we are going to discuss the differences between playing acoustic guitar and electric guitar. We will also include the brands of both guitars here.
1 Electric guitar is easier to learn. This is because there are many techniques available for you to select and use. You can use the electric guitar component to help you create the sound you want.

2 Electric guitar has softer strings. The strings are also smaller. Therefore, it is easier to play. In addition, you can bend electric guitar strings easier than acoustic guitar’s.

3 Electric guitar can be easily recorded. You can connect the line from the amplifier to your recorder. This can be done at home or at the studio.

4 Electric guitar has more sound possibilities. You can use effect pedals to modify your sound quality.

5 Electric guitar need amplifier. This may be the weak point of electric guitar. The guitar itself does not give enough sound volume without amplifier.

6 Acoustic guitar has sound hole in the body to create enough sound. Therefore, your sound quality depends on the quality of the wood which the body is used to make.

7 Acoustic guitar has thicker strings. The strings can be made either by steel or nylon. Both will need more callous fingers to play than the electric guitar.

Famous brands of electric guitar include Ibanez, Fender, ESP, Jackson, Gibson, Schecter, epiphone, Dean, B.C. Rich, music man, and Washburn.

Meanwhile, the famous brands of acoustic guitar are Alvarez, Taylor, Fender, Yamaha, Gibson, Martin, Ovation, Cordoba, Ramirez, ibanez, Hill, Alvarez, and la patrie.

Learn to Play Like a Pro

One of the problems I had when I started learning acoustic guitar was that I did not know how to strum the guitar correctly. It was very difficult for me although many others said it was easy. I tried that for many weeks until I know how to do it. I am going to give you the technique here on this article.

Here is what you are going to do in order to strum the guitar. Firstly get your song book first. Unless you can remember your song by heart, you are going to need one. Then, follow the steps for each individual practice including:

Down Stroke

  1. Sit on the chair with the guitar on your lap. Place the lower curve of the guitar on your right knee, if you are right handed.
  2. Relax both hands.
  3. Place the right hand over the guitar body. Use your thumb or pick touch the first string ( lower E string).
  4. Do the same with every string. Now you are going to count the rhythm. Use your foot to tab on the floor. Count 1-2-3-4
  5. Hold the C Am F and G7 with your left hand. Use the down stroke each time your foot tab the floor. Make sure that you do it in pace. Do not slow down if you can not hold your chord well. Still make stroke although your left hand does not function well. You can correct it later. One think to remember is that you will need to keep the pace consistent.
  6. When you are good at it. Start to apply this to your favorite song by changing the chords to the ones that match the song.
  7. I know that this style of easy strumming may be boring and not so elegance. However, this basic style will teach you to go match your rhythm with the song. After that, you will be able to adapt your strumming style to be more vibrant.

Tried this until you can change your chord without looking at your left hand and your pace does not change while playing. Then we can move to more advanced strumming later.

For the beginner, tuning guitar can be difficult if you do not have any basic before. It is however possible to be done with a little of practiced skill. In this article, we are going to tell you how to tune your guitar when you are still the beginner.

Firstly, you will need to know the note for each empty sting. Here are the notes respectively:

6th string: E
5th string: A
4th string: D
3rd string: G
2nd string: B
1st string: E

Here are how to tune the guitar:

1. Use guitar tuner pipe: The tuner pipe can be blown and makes sound equivalent to the right note of each empty string. After hearing the sound, you can tune each string of your guitar to match the sound. Repeat the process until you finish the whole six strings. The price of the pipe is around 4-12 dollars. You can find it in the guitar shop store.

2. Use electronic tuner: This can be a little bit expensive. It may not be necessary since you are a beginner.
3. Use online guitar tuner: There are several place you can get the tuner for free. Here is one of the source Free Guitar Tuner. You can just download the program and run it. Tune your guitar strings the same way you do with other methods.
4. If you do not have any tuner, you can tune the sound with the piano or harmonica. Just make sure that the notes are correct.
5. Actually, if you don’t have anything, you just tune it at your free will. Just start from the sixth string then move on forward. Choose any level of tightness you want with the string. Once you are happy with it, move forward until you finish the first string. This method can be done if you are going to play the guitar alone. But if you start to play with others, you will need to tune your guitar to the standard notes by applying above tuning methods.

I hope the method is clear for you. Let me know if you have any query.

Fast track to be a guitar pro.

It is not difficult to change the guitar strings by yourself. If you are a woman who has never touched any instrument, do not be afraid of it. It may look intimidating but it is actually pretty easy. We are going to talk about the steps to change acoustic guitar strings here in this article.

1. Look at what type of the guitar you are having. Is it a classic guitar or folk guitar? You will need to know that so that you can buy the right type of the strings. Classic guitar uses nylon strings while folk guitar uses metal strings. In addition, the bridge and the turning pegs are a little different between the two. That doesn’t matter. They are quite similar though.
2. Remove the old strings. This can be done by loosen all the strings by turning the pegs until your strings are very loose. Then you can remove the bridge pins and take the strings out if your guitar is a folk guitar. For a classic guitar, you will need to untie the strings at the bridge. It is not difficult. All you need to do is notice how the strings are tied and untie them.
3. Clean the fingerboards and body parts new the guitar hole. This is a good chance to clean it since there is no string to be your obstacle.
4. Get the new strings. Carefully take them out of the package one by one. To avoid mixing them up. Do not take out the new one unless the first one has already been installed.
5. Start putting on the sixth strings. Start at the bridge first and then move on to the turning peg. After that you come back to put on the fifth strings and so on.
6. Now you can have your strings replaced.

I have here enclosed the VDOs on how to change your acoustic guitar strings so that you can get more information.

If you want to play acoustic guitar and you do not have music notes reading skill, you may want to learn guitar tab. Guitar tabs are different from the typical music notes. As a beginner, you can greatly benefit from it. This article will be about how you can master your skill using guitar tabs.
“Tabs” comes from the word tablature. It contains the lines which simulate your guitar strings. The first row is the top strings and continues further until the sixth row. The number on the tabs represents the fret you are going to press on the guitar neck. A zero is for open string. Do you see how simple it is? By the way, the X indicates a muffled string.

If you do not know what fret is, here is the explanation. The area between the two metal bars on guitar neck is called a fret. There are 21 to 24 frets on the acoustic guitar.
You can see that one column on the tabs can have one of more numbers. If it has only one number, you will have to play just that note. If there are a few of numbers on the same column, then you will have to play all the notes simultaneously. It can be called strumming if you have to play all six strings at the same time.
A few other things that may be seen include hammer-ons, pull-offs, bends and slides. The letter “h” indicates a hammer-on. For instance, you might see something like “7h9” on one of the lines. Pull-offs are indicated by a “p”, bends by the letter “b”, and slides by the notation “/”.
Guitar tabs will make your life easier when you start learning acoustic guitar without knowing any music note. You will enjoy the process more and will see the rewarding results within a short while.

  1. Set up your goals: You will need to know what you want out of this guitar learning. The level of what you want will relate a lot to what you are going to do. It will also relate to your satisfaction on the result you will get. For example, you can not expect to get the professional level if you just practice once a week. So, as a beginner, set up your goals first before you move onto other steps.
  2. Get a guitar: You can not borrow other people guitar all along since you are going to use it everyday. Buy one or make sure that you have the instrument available whenever you want. Acoustic guitar is not that expensive anyway. If you think you can not afford one right now, save the money up. Wait until you can afford a decent guitar. You will have more momentum when you own a guitar yourself.
  3. Get the right guide: You will need to have a good guide to play the guitar right. It can be a book or some journal that can teach you how to start. Or you can hire private tutor or go to class. Or with the current convenience of using internet, you can find a guitar course online. Anyway, you will have to make sure that the guide is right for you. Otherwise, it will waste you time.
  4. Schedule your time: Music playing needs a lot of practices. You can not avoid that. So, you will have to allocate some of your time into learning acoustic guitar. My suggestion is that you need to practice at least half an hour every day. Remember, there is no shortcut in developing music skill. You will need to practice playing it everyday.

With the above four steps, you can now start playing acoustic guitar in a short time. Probably within a few weeks, you will be able to play your first song. Determination is very important in starting anything. You will be successful if you stick to it.
