If you want to be able to play acoustic guitar, you will have to practice. There are many things that you need depending on what level you are. Let’s presume that you are a beginner in acoustic guitar playing. You will need the following for your practice.

1 A good acoustic guitar
You should not borrow a guitar from anyone since you are going to stay with it for a long time. You are not going to give up, aren’t you? If you decide so, get one. It doesn’t have to be expensive. A guitar is not expensive though. If you are short in budget, buy a second hand one. You can go to eBay and look for one. Buying a reliable brand will save you a lot of headache. A no name guitar can make your practice a torture.
2 A good teacher or guide book or guitar course
Do not expect that you can learn playing guitar without a guide. It is not that easy. You will need to right guide to save your time and money. Paying for something that will stick with you for the rest of your life will be very worthy. If you can not afford a tutor, get a book or an online course. There are many available at affordable cost.

3 A good and quiet place
To not bother others, you will need a place to practice. The beginning phase will be boring for you and for the ones who have to listen to you. However, a lot of people don’t mind if you can not find a place. I started out practicing in a room with other family members. They didn’t mind and they were surprised to hear later on that I could play. It was a rewarding experience to face.

4 A metronome
If you are serious about playing the rhythm right from the beginning, you should get one. It is an inexpensive device which I found quite useful. However, you don’t have to if you do not have budget on this. It is not a must but it is nice to have.

5 Time and schedule
You will need to practice guitar everyday if you want to succeed in it. I think the best interval is around one to two hours. I did it in the evening when I got home from college. Again, the schedule depends on your availability. The estimated time frame that you can start playing a song may be within one to two months.
